I am beginning a series of book reviews on artists, choosing one fiction book and one non-fiction book about them. Ah, but which to read first?
If I start with the non-fiction I get the context of the artist's life, like subtle references to real events. If I start with the fiction, I get to encounter the artist first through imagination, free from facts and analysis. That might make the artist feel more alive to me as I read.
I think I will start with the fiction and then move to the non-fiction for more insight. How about you? Which would you prefer to read first.
First in the series is coming very soon.
